Updates come in two steps you control. Silan tells you an update is ready, downloads it when you click, and installs it when you restart. If an agent, a run, a routine or a recording is at work, Silan asks whether to wait for it to finish. A downloaded update also installs on its own the next time you quit.

The footer icon at the sidebar’s foot has five looks: up to date, checking, an update is ready, downloading, and restart to install. Clicking the ready state opens a note with Restart and install, What’s new and Close.

Menu item under Silan When it shows
About Silan Always. Shows the app and engine versions.
Check for Updates… When nothing is pending.
Download… When an update is ready.
Restart to Install… When a download is done.
Install … on Next Restart After the download, as the quiet choice.

When you choose to restart while something is at work, Silan asks: Restart when the agent is done, Restart now or Not now. Settings › General › Check for updates automatically turns the daily check on and off. A build with no update feed turns the whole feature off.

  1. Watch the footer icon, or choose Silan › Check for Updates….
  2. When it reads ready, click it and read What’s new.
  3. Click Restart and install, or choose Install … on Next Restart and keep working.
  4. If an agent is at work, pick Restart when the agent is done.
  5. After the restart, Silan › About Silan shows the new versions.

Updates have no agent or API side.

  • The restart and its question, the ready note with What’s new, the footer icon’s looks and the General switch against a live feed were proved by unit tests and offscreen pictures. Not yet proved live.
  • An update never installs while a task, run, routine or recording is under way unless you choose Restart now.
